Program Overview
The Master’s Program in Food Science at the Universidad de Chile aims to provide graduates with advanced training, enabling them to play leading roles in scientific and technological development related to food production and integrate into higher education, planning, and research institutions within the food sector. The program is both academic and professional in nature.
Specific Objectives:
- Enhance human resources in the food sector by developing advanced academic and professional skills.
- Offer training and updates in advanced food science, engineering, and technology.
Graduate Profiles
Academically, graduates will have the skills to systematically analyze theoretical and technological information, conduct research, and contribute solutions to problems in the field of Food Science.
- Knowledge: Advanced knowledge in food biochemistry, nutrition, physical and chemical properties, food engineering, and technology.
- Skills: Competency in generating knowledge, designing and executing projects, and providing solutions to optimize processes in Food Science and Engineering.
Professionnally, graduates will be able to apply advanced theoretical and practical knowledge of food processes, propose innovative solutions, and work in multidisciplinary teams.
- Knowledge: Advanced knowledge in food science, covering food biochemistry, nutrition, and engineering.
- Skills: Expertise in managing food preparation processes in compliance with legislation, safety, and environmental regulations.
Curriculum
Language of Instruction: Spanish
The program requires the completion of 90 credits, distributed as follows:
- 16 credits in Compulsory Courses
- 8 credits in Elective Courses
- 16 credits in Research Units
- 10 credits in Thesis Projects
- 40 credits for Thesis or AFE to Thesis

Application Requirements
Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Agronomy, Engineering Sciences, Pharmacy, Biochemistry, Nutrition, Veterinary Medicine, or Food Engineering. Degrees or titles from foreign universities may also be considered if they are equivalent.

- Certificates of Degrees and/or Academic Titles, or proof that they are in process (legalized for other Universities and Foreign Students)
- Official complete transcript including passed and failed courses (with QR code, Verification Code, or Notary Certification)
- Graduation Ranking Certificate (if unavailable, a letter from the institution stating that it is not provided)
- Letter of Commitment and Dedication
- Letter of Intent
- Simple copy of identity card or passport

This program is offered in Spanish. Therefore, knowledge of the Spanish language is an essential requirement for enrolling in the program.
Scholarships and Benefits
Students may apply for the following scholarships:

- Fee Reduction: Based on a socioeconomic evaluation conducted by the Social Worker.
For International Students:
International students can also apply for doctoral funding scholarships in Chile through institutions in their home countries. Requirements must be verified directly with the relevant institution. Here are two examples:
