Program Objective
The main objective of this program is to provide university graduates and professionals with advanced training in the areas of Chemical Sciences and their applications.
Specific Objectives:
- Enhance the training of human resources in the field of chemistry, equipping them with more outstanding competencies for their professional performance.
- To provide more profound knowledge and mastery of scientific and technological developments in specific areas of chemistry that are in line with the country’s needs and development.
Lines of Research
Natural Sciences – Mathematics
The curriculum consists of systematic curricular activities in specialization and a Master’s Thesis. The activities will be selected for each candidate by the Master’s Academic Committee to guide the choice of their specialization area: Analytical Chemistry, Environmental Chemistry, Colloid Chemistry, Materials Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, and Metallurgical Chemistry.
Undergraduate students in good standing from the Faculty of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences who have met the requirements for their Bachelor’s degree may take Master’s Program courses with prior authorization from the Undergraduate Directorate.
Mandatory Courses
- Environmental Chemistry
- Colloid Chemistry
- Materials Chemistry
- Metallurgical Chemistry
- Topics in Medicinal Chemistry
- Topics in Chemometrics
Mandatory Courses in the Area of Specialization
- Experimental Research Unit
- Theoretical Research Unit (Bibliographic Seminar)
- Thesis Project Formulation
Thesis
Depending on the chosen specialization, the student must take one of these courses as a requirement.
Master’s Thesis
The Master’s Thesis constitutes the core curricular activity of the program. It is an original and individual research project that contributes to knowledge in Chemistry or applies this knowledge to solve a problem using the scientific method.
The Master’s Thesis is considered to meet and exceed the requirement of a Bachelor’s thesis necessary for obtaining a professional title, as established by the respective undergraduate regulations.
Eligibility
Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or a related science. Additionally, professionals from accredited universities or professional institutes who hold a professional title equivalent in level, content, and duration to the Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry from the University of Chile are also eligible to apply.
Scholarships and Benefits
Students pursuing doctoral studies may apply for:
- ANID Scholarship
Alternatively, students may apply for a reduced tuition through a socioeconomic evaluation conducted by the Social Worker.
International students can also apply for doctoral funding scholarships in Chile through institutions in their home countries. Requirements must be verified directly with the relevant institution. Here are two examples:
- Senescyt (for Ecuadorian students only)
- Pronabec (for Peruvian students only)
- AGCID
Students may apply for all scholarships, but they cannot be combined. Scholarships are renewed annually. For more information, please contact: posgrado@ciq.uchile.cl.
