The Faculty of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences established the Local Self-Assessment Committee (CLA) at the end of 2017 by University Decree No. 8315, which promulgated the Institutional Self-Assessment Regulation of the University of Chile.
Institutional Self-Assessment is a systematic evaluation process where the university and each of its academic units come together to analyze, in a participatory manner, the university’s activities. This process is based on the objectives declared in the University Statute, the Institutional Development Plan (PDI) of the University of Chile, and the Strategic Development Plan (PDE) of each Academic Unit.
In the Faculty of Chemical and Pharmaceutical Sciences, self-assessment involves preparing a report that covers undergraduate teaching, graduate teaching, postgraduate teaching, research, extension, and community engagement, compared against the fulfillment of the PDE. The final report is submitted to the Institutional Self-Assessment Committee.
The current composition of the Local Self-Assessment Committee is as follows:
- Prof. Soledad Bollo Dragnic (President), since April 3, 2024 (term ends March 19, 2027) (first term).
- Prof. Fernando Valenzuela Lozano (Vice President), since May 6, 2022 (term ends May 6, 2025) (first term).
- Prof. Javier Morales Valenzuela, since December 3, 2021 (term ends December 3, 2024) (first term).
- Prof. Ximena Briones Olarán, since October 7, 2022 (term ends October 7, 2025) (first term).

Timeline for project evaluation
- The lead researchers (Investigadores Responsables, IR) in projects that use experimental animals must send the Local Bioethics Committee (Comité de Bioética Local, CBE) the corresponding documents to be evaluated (see infographic and protocols).
- The CBE has ten working days to evaluate the request. If the CBE deems it necessary, it will ask the IR to modify the protocol. The IR may also be summoned to a meeting to resolve aspects not well established in the Protocol for handling and caring for animals.
- The IR has 30 days to resend the protocol with the requested corrections to the CBE with the signatures of the IR and the Director of the corresponding department.
The documents that must be sent to the CBE are:
- Application letter from the IR requesting an ethical review and evaluation of the project. The letter should be in PDF format and sent by email (fill out the application letter form using the related link).
- Send the PDF using the Research Project email to the CBE president, Dr. Alfonso Paredes aparedes@ciq.uchile.cl. The required sections are hypothesis, objectives, methodology, and methodology references.
- The protocol for the handling and care of animals (see form by clicking on the related link) in Word format by email to the CBE president.
- If a private company finances the project, the IR must attach a letter and the above-requested documentation to the Faculty Research Director stating that the project was duly formalized in this unit.
