within the Faculty, ensuring compliance with the general study regulations of the University of Chile and the specific regulations of the degree programs offered by the Faculty.<\/p><p>Students at the Universidad de Chile are subject to the university\u2019s Student Regulations (Exempt Decree 007586 of November 19, 1993) which establish the following rights and responsibilities:<\/p><h6><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Responsibilities<\/span>:<\/h6><ol><li>Respect the institution and contribute to the harmony of university life, keeping in mind the guiding principles stated in the applicable Statutes;<\/li><li>Take primary responsibility for your own education, with the support and supervision of your professors and interaction with your peers, in the conditions established in the applicable regulations;<\/li><li>Comply with the provisions of the university\u2019s regulations and other standards;<\/li><li>Respect all members of the university community;<\/li><li>Protect our heritage and respect university emblems; and\u00a0<\/li><li>Recognize the source and authorship of ideas and results of your own and others, according to the academic standards and conventions of each discipline.\u00a0<\/li><\/ol><h6><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Rights:\u00a0<\/span><\/h6><ol><li>Receive an education of excellence in agreement with the institution\u2019s mission and the guiding principles that ensure its public character;<\/li><li>Be evaluated in your teaching and learning process through procedures that have established standards, criteria, and time frames and that they be applied impartially and rigorously. When applicable, a second review may be done upon founded prior request;<\/li><li>That your evaluation and promotion not be conditioned on factors outside of their academic merits, according to the corresponding regulations;<\/li><li>Participate in:<ol><li>a) academic forums and university government according to established university standards;<\/li><li>b) modification, evaluation, and accreditation of courses of study and majors, according to established university standards; and<\/li><li>c) the creation of policies related to student well-being and sports or others policies related to university life;<\/li><li>Receive recognition or certification accordingly for your contribution to academic work;<\/li><li>Receive certification for participation in academic activities, sports, social events, extension and\/or representation that contribute to fulfilling the University\u2019s institutional mission and that are not part of your course of studies;<\/li><li>Independently establish student organizations, according to stated regulations;<\/li><li>Have access to an adequate quality of student life that:<\/li><li>a) facilitates the practice of sports, cultural, recreational, and personal development activities, according to the curricular and general University conditions;<\/li><li>b) provides healthcare and social assistance as offered by the University; and<\/li><li>c) allows you to apply for scholarships and student support programs, according to current regulations;<\/li><li>Receive timely academic, administrative, and standards information related to your student duties.<\/li><\/ol><\/li><\/ol><p>The same regulations establish standards regarding student participation and the quality of university life, and generally regulate the mechanisms of student enrollment, retention, and promotion.\u00a0<\/p><p>Review at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.uchile.cl\/estudiantes\">www.uchile.cl\/estudiantes<\/a>\u00a0(Regulations)\u00a0<\/p><h3><strong>Academic year and exams\u00a0<\/strong><\/h3><p>Every semester is organized into 15 academic weeks, one week off (number 16) and 3 weeks of final exams (weeks 17, 18 and 19). During the week off, there should be no evaluated academic activities, if possible.<\/p><p>At the beginning of each semester, the Registrar will announce the date and place of the global competency tests (A tests) and final tests for all courses. Additionally, the professor who coordinates the course may schedule other types of evaluations that must be announced in the course\u2019s first class. Test dates are coordinated at every level.\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>Students who enroll in courses at different levels should keep in mind that test dates and times may coincide.<\/strong><\/p><h4><strong>Types of courses\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4><p>This Faculty\u2019s degrees include course work in:<\/p><ul><li>Basic Education (required): Education in essential knowledge, skills and attitudes that enable you to understand and communicate the degree\u2019s foundations.\u00a0<\/li><li>General Education (CFG \/ elective): Mainly in the areas of humanities and the arts, which contribute to a comprehensive, pluralistic, and ethical education for students. Sports electives are also included in this category. Most of these courses are centrally taught on different University campuses. The Registrar publishes a list of general education courses each semester.\u00a0<\/li><li>Specialized Education (CFE \/ required and elective): Curricular activities that ensure knowledge, skills and attitudes linked to the degree\u2019s advanced professional and academic training.<\/li><li>Extracurricular activities (ACL \/ elective): Students may freely choose, without any limit except what the student demands of themself according to their ability and interests. These activities do not provide credits.<\/li><\/ul><h4><strong>Academic enrollment<\/strong><\/h4><p>At the beginning of each semester, students must enroll in courses online at\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/ucampus.cl\/\">www.ucampus.cl<\/a>, taking into consideration the course requirements and schedule.<\/p><p>During the first weeks of each semester, enrollment may be modified by adding or withdrawing from courses. Additionally, in <strong>week 7, course withdrawal may be requested as an exception through ucampus<\/strong>. This request will be evaluated by the Faculty Administration.<\/p><h4><strong>First class\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4><p>At the beginning of the semester, the course coordinator must provide a copy of the course program and its objectives, which will also include requirements, groups of assignments and seminars, a calendar of activities and evaluations with their corresponding considerations and exam exemption conditions.<\/p><p>The professor must offer office hours to students as part of the course activities.<\/p><h4><strong>Types of evaluations<\/strong><\/h4><p>Each course will indicate the type of evaluation, which may be:\u00a0<\/p><ul><li>Partial exams: Also called A tests, these last between 1:30 and 2:30 hours and are scheduled by the Registrar.\u00a0<\/li><li>Seminar tests or quizzes: Short tests of approximately 30 minutes, scheduled by the course professor.\u00a0<\/li><li>Laboratory or practicum tests: May be short tests at the beginning or end of the practicum.<\/li><li>Reports, dissertations or essays with grades.\u00a0<\/li><li>Final make-up tests (Pruebas de Recuperaci\u00f3n, PRE) and exams: Scheduled by the Registrar.<\/li><\/ul><p>Students must be able to correct their tests and understand the grading guidelines. The course professor must define a procedure for this and set dates and times.<\/p><h4><strong>System for Attendance at Evaluations<\/strong><\/h4><p>Attendance at evaluations is required and those who do not attend will receive a grade of 1.0. At the end of the course, students who have all their grades and an average of 5.0 prior to the PRE test will be exempt from taking the exam.<\/p><p>Students may make up an absence to a mid-term A test by taking a Special Make-up Test (PRE) at the end of the respective semester, similar to a first exam but which covers all course content.\u00a0<\/p><p>This special test may also be taken voluntarily by students who wish to replace it with their lowest grade in an A test, according to the Faculty\u2019s internal regulations.<\/p><p>If the PRE test grade is 4.0 or higher and if the student\u2019s average, including the PRE test, is 4.0 or higher, the student will pass the course, unless they decide to take a final exam.\u00a0<\/p><p>Courses such as information technology, Laboratories, project design and\/or elective courses, may be evaluated through writing tests, dissertations, demonstrated work, reports, or essays, without requiring a PRE test and\/or exam.<\/p><h4><strong>Final Grade<\/strong><\/h4><p>A final exam will be evaluated by a committee made up of the course professor and two other professors chosen by the respective Department Director. The course grade will consist of a weighted average of all partial course grades.\u00a0<\/p><p>All students have the right to take a final exam independent of their semester average. The final grade of students who take exams will be calculated by applying a 60% weight to partial grades and 40% to the exam.<\/p><h4><strong>Number of Evaluations\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4><p>All courses must give a minimum of two partial exams and a maximum of three exams during the semester. Absence from any evaluated activity will be graded at 1.0 (one).<\/p><p>Courses that give A tests: There may be one or two tests scheduled by the Registrar and another short evaluation (otra evaluaci\u00f3n, OE) or a seminar with grades, dissertation, report, or essay.<\/p><p>If there are only two evaluations, these may be two A tests or one A test and one OE.<\/p><p>If a course requires three evaluations, it is understood that it will be two A tests and one OE. The weight of the OE will be decided for each course. The weights, when added, must total 100. The resulting average will represent the average course grade prior to the PRE test or final exam.<\/p><h4><strong>Courses that do not give A tests:<\/strong><\/h4><p>The innovative courses in the 2016 education plan as well as IT courses, Laboratories, project design, and elective courses, are now bound by the A test system. Therefore, their evaluations can be partial exams and\/or comprehensive tests (they are generally set by the professor in charge of the course), dissertations, demonstrated work, reports, and essays.\u00a0<\/p><p>\u201cIn the event that a student is caught committing fraud, plagiarism or other illicit actions in exams, tests, quizzes, or other academic activities, they will be failed in that course with a final grade of 1.0.\u201d<\/p><h4><strong>Absences\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4><p>An absence from an A test does not need to be justified. However, the student must take the PRE test. Students who are absent from the PRE test will only be eligible to take the final exam. However, if a student\u2019s unjustified absences from required activities (laboratories or seminars) are higher than 50%, or if they have missed two A tests, it is cause for failure of the course.<\/p><p>If absences are justified, the course can be considered pending and they must retake it the next time it is offered.\u00a0<\/p><p><strong>If a justification is needed for required activities, the student MUST present a \u201cJustification Request\u201d to the Faculty\u2019s Student Social Services.<\/strong><\/p><p>When it comes to health situations, the timeframe for bed rest or a doctor\u2019s note must not exceed 5 business days. If the reasons are not health related, the timeframe is a maximum of 5 business days from the start of the absence, according to the \u201cJustification procedures for absences from evaluations\u201d from April 3, 2014.<\/p><h4><strong>Attendance conditions\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4><p>Each course will inform students of its attendance conditions. Without exception, attendance at Laboratories, practicums and seminars is required. Professors will inform of the attendance requirements and policy for absences according to the demands of the course.<\/p><h4><strong>Other evaluations (OE)\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4><p>These must be completely finished by week 15 of the semester, including the possibility of a limited number of Undergraduate School make up activities or tests. Professors should clearly specify a minimum of make up activities. Situations not considered in these regulations must be evaluated by the Faculty Administration.<\/p><h4><strong>Academic surrender and educational freeze<\/strong><\/h4><p>If a student\u2019s health is at risk or if they have psychological or other problems, THEY MUST inform Student Social Services as soon as possible and provide certification from Student Medical and Dental Services (Servicio M\u00e9dico y Dental de los Alumnos, SEMDA) or a private doctor.\u00a0<\/p><p>The Faculty Administration will evaluate at a later time the possibility of academic surrender (elimination of courses), academic considerations (postponement of exams), or freezing of studies.<\/p><p>Any unexpected situation outside of these regulations will be evaluated by the Undergraduate Administration.<\/p><h4><strong>Course repetition and a third opportunity.\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4><ul><li>A student who fails a required course the first time must take it again at the first available opportunity.\u00a0<\/li><li>If they fail the same course a second time, it is considered a reason for dismissal from the degree program. The student can make a request for a third opportunity at the Faculty Administration, which would have to be approved by the Dean before informing the Undergraduate School. The request for a third opportunity must be submitted no later than week 2 of the semester.\u00a0<\/li><li>If a student requests a third opportunity in a course during their first year of studies (first formal year or reenrollment), it will not be approved and the student will automatically be eliminated from the degree program.<\/li><li>If a student requests a third opportunity in a course during their second year or later, they may be allowed one opportunity to repeat the course before completing 50% of their major.<\/li><li>If a student requests a third opportunity for a second time, they may be allowed to repeat the course if they passed more than 50% of the courses in their major.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul><p><strong>\u201cAnyone who fails a course one or two times must give it priority when taking it again.\u201d<\/strong><\/p><h4><strong>Dismissal\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4><p>Anyone who has been dismissed from a major cannot apply for the same major through a new selection process until one academic year has passed.<\/p><h4><strong>Requests\u00a0<\/strong><\/h4><p>The following requests can be made to the Undergraduate School Administration:<\/p><ul><li>Postponement of a semester or year and resumption of studies.\u00a0<\/li><li>Renouncing a major.\u00a0<\/li><li>Authorization to take courses without the pre-requisites.\u00a0<\/li><li>Authorization to take courses in other Facultys.<\/li><li>Authorization for third opportunities.<\/li><li>Authorization for non-regulated academic activities.\u00a0<\/li><li>Degree transfer within a Faculty, from other Faculty\u2019s at the University of Chile or from other universities.\u00a0<\/li><li>Accreditation for courses taken at other universities.\u00a0<\/li><\/ul><p>Important recommendations<\/p><p>If the student has:<\/p><ul><li>social problems that affect their academic performance, they should visit the Faculty\u2019s social assistants.<\/li><li>academic problems, they should make a timely request for an interview with the Undergraduate School Director.\u00a0<\/li><li>health problems, they must go to the Student Medical and Dental Service (SEMDA) and inform the social assistants as well as the Faculty Administration.<\/li><\/ul><p>\u201cDon\u2019t wait until the end of the semester to let us know about problems that affect your academic
